Alexander R. Rosita is a pen name. It is offered without apology and without full explanation. The name is not a concealment. It is an architectural choice, a structure built the way certain rooms are built, to hold more than appears visible from the outside. It encodes a dedication. The person it is for will understand it when she is old enough to read it.
Before this novel
He spent the years before this novel in law, practicing across the jurisdictions of Southeast Asia, the Gulf, and the African continent, in the procedural language of contracts, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border financial instruments. In systems that accumulate authority they were never entitled to. He speaks several languages. He has lived most of his adult life in the liminal space between legal cultures, between frameworks, between the law as written and the law as it operates. He did not come to fiction through ambition. He came through fracture. He wrote this novel in conditions of confinement, not despite them.
The novel
This is his first novel. He gave it without the protection of knowing what comes next. It cost something considerable. He does not believe the cost was an error.
